2015 RECRUITING ISSUE PERSONAL Tyrone Anthony Wheatley Jr. was born Feb. 4, 1997, in Ramsey, N.J. … Father, Tyrone, is a former Wolverine tailback who had a distinguished career in the Michigan backfield from 1991-94, in- cluding three straight All-Big Ten selec- tions (1992-94) … Mother, Kimberly, played volleyball at North Carolina Central University … Will be the first recruit from New York to enroll at Michi- gan since John Ferrara (Staten Island) in 2006. RANKINGS Consensus rating of the four major recruiting services: four-star prospect, the No. 12 tight end nationally and the No. 1 player in New York. (* Ranked as a defensive end by Scout, so not in- cluded.) STATISTICS Career Totals: Started at tight end and along the defensive line for two seasons at Canisius and one season at Fayetteville-Manlius … Appeared in 29 games, recording 41 receptions for 630 yards (15.4-yard average) and seven touchdowns … Recorded 159 career tackles, including 56 tackles for loss and 18 sacks … Had one intercep- tion, three passes broken up, eight forced fumbles, three fumble recover- ies and two blocked punts. Senior Season: Played in all 12 games for a Crusaders team that went 12-0 and won the Catholic state title with a 23-10 win over Archbishop St- epinac, finishing the season No. 1 in the Class AA state poll and No. 30 na- tionally in the final USA Today rankings … Made 11 receptions for 182 yards (16.5-yard average) and two touch- downs … Defensively, recorded 68 tackles, 34 stops for loss and 10 sacks … Had three sacks and six total tack- les for loss among eight stops in the championship game … On the year, also had three passes broken up, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two blocked punts … Named The Buffalo News Player of the Year and first-team All-Western New York. Junior Season: Transferred in from Fayetteville -M anlius and played in all 11 games for a Canisius team that went 9-2 and won the Catholic state championships with a 41-7 win over St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute … Made 16 grabs for 190 yards (11.9 yards per catch) and two touchdowns at tight end … Tallied 41 tackles, 16 hits for loss and two sacks on defense … Had seven stops, three tackles for loss and a sack in the state title game … On the season, also nabbed an in- terception, forced four fumbles and recovered three fumbles … Named TYRONE WHEATLEY ATHLETE 6-6 • 260 CANISIUS HIGH SCHOOL BUFFALO, N.Y.
