Junior Season: Missed significant time due to injury for a 3-8 team that failed to qualify for the state playoffs … Played both defensive tackle and defensive end in the starting lineup when healthy … Finished with 13 stops, five tackles for loss and one sack. Sophomore Season: Sat out the football season after initially planning to transfer schools when his previous head coach departed, and then re- mained at Atlantic instead … Atlantic finished 8-3, falling in the first round of the 7A state playoffs. Freshman Season: Played sparingly for a 6-4 team that failed to qualify for the state playoffs. ALL-STAR GAMES AND CAMPS Participated in the University of Flor- ida's Friday Night Lights camp as a ris- ing senior … Took part in Florida State summer camp entering senior year … Selected to the Florida-Georgia All- Star Game Jan. 3 in Boynton Beach, Fla. … Did not accrue any statistics in Team Florida's 26-14 loss to Team Georgia. QUOTABLE U-M defensive line coach Greg Mattison on Johnson: "Shelton has all the physical characteristics neces- sary to be successful at the defensive end position. He has very high charac- ter and is an excellent football player. He will fit in perfectly in our scheme." Tom Lemming of Prep Football Re- port: "I think Michigan's going after him for potential. He has length, long arm and quick feet. He has to grow into his body, and they don't expect big things out of him right away. He certainly can build the muscle and strength, and he already has the pro- duction." Why Johnson Chose Michigan: "I felt like it was the best fit for me. School-wise and football-wise, grad- uating with that Michigan degree sounded better to me than anything else." Head Coach's Comments: "He's one of the elite pass rushers I've seen in a long time for a high school kid," Atlan- tic head coach TJ Jackson said. "He's definitely going to have to put on a little weight and get stronger in the weight room. That will come with be- ing in the right program and eating right. Other than that, he's a fantastic student in the classroom and fantastic athlete."
