Oct. 6, 2007,
as a three-legged
fawn trying to escape
a hungry mountain
lion. Or so they said.
After all, the Cardinal
faced what Stanford head
coach Jim Harbaugh de-
scribed the previous summer
at Pac-10 media day by saying:
"There is no question in my mind
that USC is the best team in the
country and may be the best team in
the history of college football."
Now the 1-3 Cardinal stared down
an invasion of Los Angeles Memorial
Coliseum, minus starting quarter-
back T.C. Ostrander. Ostrander, a se-
nior, absorbed a beating in Stanford's
41-3 annihilation by Arizona State a
week earlier and suffered a seizure at
a restaurant afterwards.
Enter sophomore quarterback Ta-
vita Pritchard, a sharp-minded but
wholly untested signal-caller. He
was to lead the Cardinal against Pete
Harbaugh took over a Stanford program that
had experienced five straight losing seasons
and quickly instilled a winning mentality into
the Cardinal players.
