WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Northwestern, falling 63-62 Feb. 14 at Crisler Center. Michigan led the game
for its entirety until Northwestern scored the go-ahead bucket with just 4.4
seconds remaining. Smith had a final attempt, but her contested jumper fell
short, sealing Northwestern's come-from-behind win.
MVP — Senior Forward Cyesha Goree: Despite a recent stretch where
Michigan lost five of six games, Goree remained solid. With just four regular-
season games remaining, she was still averaging a double-double at 14.4
points per game and 10.2 boards per contest. Goree led Michigan in points,
rebounds, minutes (32.0 per game), field goal percentage (.551), blocks (18)
and double-doubles (14).
Notable Stat: Michigan had four players scoring in double figures in Goree,
Smith (14.3 points per game), Flaherty (14.1) and Thompson (11.6).
Upcoming Games To Watch — Purdue, Feb. 24: The only time Michigan will
face Purdue this season happens inside Crisler Center Feb. 24 in a must-win home
contest. Michigan has played well at home this year (10-3) and with fading hopes
of making the NCAA Tournament, winning at home is essential. The Boilermak-
ers were 10-15 as of Feb. 15 and beatable for a struggling Michigan team. A big
win over Purdue would be a confidence builder heading into the regular-season
finale at Illinois Feb. 28.
