QUOTABLE Jim Harbaugh's Comments: "Grant is smart, hard-working and incredibly independent. It is clear to me that he is mature beyond his years. "Grant worked exceptionally hard under Coach O'Dea's tutelage at Law- renceville Prep to get to where he is right now. He is a fantastic role model for his younger brother, and he is the kind of man that will make contribu- tions in his community no matter where life takes him. His mother told me he had his best year academically at Lawrenceville High School last year with straight A's during the height of the recruiting process. "On top of that, since he was at a boarding school, he dealt with most of the recruiting process on his own, with great guidance from Coach O'Dea. As his mother told me, 'I like to think we had something to do with imparting upon him the skills to nav- igate all of that so successfully, but much of it is in his DNA. From the time he was a toddler he has always been quite comfortable with adults and has been well spoken. We feel exception- ally proud to have him as our son.'" Tom Lemming of Prep Football Re- port: "I had him on the cover of my magazine with other prospects from New Jersey. Grant's a legit big guy. When you see him in person, he looks like a college player already. If he was at a regular school instead of a prep school, he'd be everyone's All-Ameri- can. I think he's a potential first-round guy in four or five years." Why Newsome Chose Michigan: "Michigan is the complete package. It really attracted me in so many ways — academically, athletically, socially. Talking with the coaches, but meeting with the players, I got a really posi- tive vibe from the campus and a really good feel for the program. It really just checked off all my boxes, and there wasn't any more that I could look for in a school." Head Coach's Comments: "Grant is just a solid kid," Lawrenceville Prep coach Danny O'Dea said. "He's a big kid, and he keeps getting bigger and bigger. He has really good feet, and he has so much room to get better. He's pretty special with his athleticism and his size, there's no doubt about it."
