2015 RECRUITING ISSUE All Grant Perry knows how to do is succeed. In three full seasons on varsity at Bloomfield (Mich.) Brother Rice High School, Perry went 37-3 on the football field and won two state championships. His senior season totals of 1,727 yards and 20 touch- downs are both Brother Rice records, while his 105 receptions are not only a record at Brother Rice but also an all-time record in the state of Michi- gan. Yet as he wrapped up his senior season he was frustrated to only hold offers from the Mid-American Con- ference. "I really appreciated the schools that offered me and showed me love," Perry said. "But I felt like I was under-recruited and overlooked a lot by a lot of schools. I didn't like that aspect of my recruitment." First-year head coach at Brother Rice, David Sofran, also noticed the lack of offers early on and felt like Perry was more deserving. "Early on he had all of the MAC schools come in. I believe when no Big Ten schools offered him early, ev- eryone just thought he was a MAC- level player," Sofran explained. "It's one of those things where I, all along, thought he was a Big Ten player. He certainly did well when- ever he played against other Big Ten- caliber guys. When Nevada came in, it kind felt a little different because it was a school from out West that recognized his abilities." Nevada would offer and Perry was intrigued, but he still wanted to step up into the next tier and reel in a Power Five conference offer. Eventu- ally a member of the Big Ten pulled the trigger when Northwestern of- fered the 6-0, 185-pound record- breaking receiver. Perry was beyond excited and ultimately committed to the Wildcats. "I really liked the coaches there," Perry said of Northwestern.
