66 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BY JACEY ZEMBAL T he NC State women's golf team fin- ished strongly last year, tying for 10th at the NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Augusta James tied for 13th individually with a 4-over-par 284, and was joined by Brittany Marchand (tied for 43rd), Lindsay McGetrick (tied for 67th) and Ana Menen- dez (tied for 98th) in scoring for the Wolf- pack. Only McGetrick, now a senior, returns from that group. Junior Rachael Taylor, who was the fifth player at the NCAA Champi- onships, lends another experienced player, and senior Vivian Tsui is also battle tested. Veteran women's golf coach Page Marsh, who is in her 15th year at NC State, also guided the Wolfpack to third place at both the ACC Championships and NCAA East Re- gional. She'll be blending in some newcom- ers with her veterans on the six-woman roster. "It's a new group and new team, and as human beings and young adults, they are dynamic and always ever changing," Marsh said. "We'll probably be playing a different lineup each week. "Wake Forest came on strong during the fall, Duke is always a strong team and I know Virginia has played well. It's going to be fun to see who wins." McGetrick, Taylor and Tsui combined to play in 20 tournaments last year. Sopho- more Stephanie Pribonic and freshmen Cec- ily Overbey and Crystal Huang made their Wolfpack debuts this past fall. Overbey is likely to be in the top four on the team. "They have a great rapport, and their en- ergy is wonderful," Marsh said. "They've been really upbeat. They are very optimistic and believe in the team and themselves." NC State finished tied for eighth at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Feb. 15-17, giv- ing Marsh a chance to see how her golfers have improved since their three tournaments in the fall. McGetrick, who averaged 76.4 shots for 18 holes last year, emerged as a team leader. She tied for eighth with a 2-over-par 218 and had a 68 in the third round. Marsh calls McGetrick a "gamer" and said she loves to compete and win at what- ever she does. "I have seen so much growth in McGet- rick," Marsh said. "We are pretty much growing every time out, and Lindsay is a prime example of that. The four years she has been here, she has really stepped up." Marsh said McGetrick was disappointed in herself after the fall season opener at the Cougar Classic Sept. 14-16 in Hanahan, S.C. She was the fourth golfer on the team and tied for 71st with a 12-over-par 228. "She has followed that up with a top-10 finish at every single event since," Marsh said. "She just works hard and harder each semester. She's getting ready to turn pro af- ter school, and you can see her really build- ing toward that part of her career." ■ PREVIEW WOMEN'S GOLF RELOADING New-Look Wolfpack Aims To Continue Strong Play Senior Lindsay McGetrick finished tied for 15th at the NCAA East Regional last year, shooting a 69 in the third round to end with a 2-under-par 214.
