MARCH 2015 ■ 75 ■ BASKETBALL RECRUITING nine scholarship offers. "I've been trying hard to develop a face-up game. I just keep work- ing on it. "Getting to 1,500 points means a lot be- cause I worked for something, and now I have more work to do to reach 2,000." His mom had a No. 24 sweatshirt with "Bam Bam" on the front during the 1,500-point ceremony. However, Adebayo is toying with the idea of changing to No. 13, which was his mother's number. The junior big man is averaging 31.4 points, 20.4 rebounds and 4.6 blocks per game, and has reached 40-plus points in four contests — including 47 in a 75-65 win over Washington High. He also had a 34-point, 30-rebound effort in a 78-73 win over Cho- cowinity (N.C.) Southside High Feb. 13. "He is having a great season, and he's a better person than he is a player," Northside High coach Michael Proctor said. "He is so humble and works so hard. Whoever gets him is going to get a gem. It's good to see Northside High get the recognition, but Bam deserves it all. "I like the NC State coaches, and they are down to earth people. I really like Coach Gottfried and Coach Moxley. Everyone wants him." Adebayo was born in Newark, N.J., but his family moved back to the region when he was around 5 years old. "This is a good little town, and everybody is good people," Adebayo said. "They just like seeing Northside win. My mom is a ca- shier at the meat farm nearby, and in the morning, it's packed when they serve break- fast from 6 to 10 a.m." Smith Keeps A Close Eye On NC State Smith Jr. knows he's a phone call away from watching games all throughout the state. He has taken advantage of the situation, watching games at NC State, North Carolina, Duke and Wake Forest. "I just like to watch basketball," Smith said.
