SWIMMING & DIVING Nittany Lions honored for academic showing Penn State coach Tim Murphy has both of his squads excelling in the classroom as well as the pool, as both the men's and women's teams were saluted recently for their academic performance. The Penn State men's team was one of 65 Division I swimming and div- ing squads to receive Scholar All-America awards from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The CSCAA's list of qualifiers featured seven Big Ten schools. To make the list, teams had to have at least a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better during the fall 2014 semester. The Nittany Lions were one of five schools, including conference foe Purdue, to earn a 3.05 GPA last fall. Michigan State was the highest- ranking Big Ten school, finishing the semester with a 3.41 GPA. Meanwhile, the Penn State women were named one of 143 Scholar All- America teams by the CSCAA after posting a 3.43 team GPA last fall. Murphy's squad was one of 143 Divi- sion I women's programs to receive the honor. All 13 Big Ten programs were recog- nized, led by Purdue with a 3.50 GPA.
