FOOTBALL RECRUITING Four stars, No. 3 player in Michigan, and No. 19 d e f e n s i ve t a c k l e a n d No. 182 overall player na- tionally Onwenu is a massive force in the middle and could be a true space-plugging defen- sive tackle. He's also an offensive line- man — he has more experience at that position on the high school level — where his size and athleticism let him excel. Onwenu has taken several visits to Ann Arbor, and his in-state location should be a boost to the Wolverines. They'll have to beat out Ohio State (which has signed three Cass Tech prospects in the last two classes), Alabama and others for him. DE JOSH KING 6-6, 230 pounds Darien (Ill.) Hinsdale South Four stars, No. 1 player in Illinois, and No. 4 strongside defensive end and No. 59 overall player nationally King is light for a de- fensive end, thanks to his success in wres- tling at the 220-pound weight class on the high school level (where he won the Class 3A state title as a junior). However, he's very quick off the edge and has the frame to add lots more mass in college. King visited Ann Arbor last summer, but he's also made several visits to Notre Dame and Ohio State. The Wolverines will have a chance to get him on campus again during spring practice and can move up his list. with more weight and strength, and he'll be a physical specimen once he gets into a college weight-training program. Yarbrough attends a private boarding school far from his New Jersey home, so it's no surprise that top-notch academics are important to him. Michigan, Duke and Virginia are among those he's most interested in, with multiple past visits to Ann Arbor positioning the Maize and Blue very well. DT RASHAN GARY 6-4, 290 pounds Paramus (N.J.) Catholic Five stars, No. 1 prospect in New Jersey, and No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 4 overall player nationally Gary is a monstrous defensive tackle, not because of sheer size (though he has plenty of that at 6-4, 290 pounds) but because of the athletic abil- ity he's able to use in order to move that body — and any offensive lineman who dares cross his path. He's quick enough to penetrate and strong enough to clog the middle. Gary has offers from just about every program in the country, but hasn't nar- rowed his list yet. Michigan has a very strong connection to exploit, though — he transferred to Paramus Catholic prior to his junior season in part to play for head coach Chris Partridge, and now the Wolverines have hired Partridge to run their recruiting operations.
