like me play there, someone who's com- fortable already, than have to teach someone the position. They really like my athleticism and they think I could be a guy who they end up having pull and stu+ like that. What has your workout routine been like? Do you just li" with your team? Do you work with any personal trainers? I work with a couple di+erent team- mates at my school. My dad coaches us. We go basically every day but Saturday, so six times a week. We do everything. We don't just li,. We work on cardio training and do agility drills. I don't really track [max numbers], but I believe last week, or maybe two weeks ago, I did one rep of 385 [pounds] on the bench. I know I've done 1,300 on the leg press. For squat, I don't really try to max out or anything. I usually just put 315 on there and rep it. I want to hit on strengths and weak- nesses. What are one or two things you really excel at? And are there one or two things you'd like to really work on before you enroll at Penn State? I de*nitely think one of my strengths is my footwork. I think that, compared to most, I have better footwork, better speed o+ the ball. So, basically, my ath- leticism altogether. But that's also something I'll continue to work on. Everyone in college is quick. But when it comes to weaknesses, I think I need to work on my pass blocking more. We run a wing-T o+ense, so I don't get to pass block much. I know that's something that I'll need to do well if I want to play. Also, in college, linebackers are really quick to get to the ball, *nd the hole and *nd the ball. I want to make sure I im- prove at getting o+ a double team or whatever and getting to that linebacker down the *eld. I know academics are very impor- tant to you. How did that play into your decision? Do you have any idea what you may want to major in? I'm thinking about sports manage- ment or sports science. I know Penn State has great programs for that. Penn State has always been known for aca- demics and how they really push that with their athletes. That should be im- portant, and it is at Penn State. Is there any chance you will enroll early? Yeah, there's actually a very good chance. I just sat down with the guid- ance counselor and my dad not that long ago, and I only need three and a half credits to graduate. I could easily *nish that in the *rst half of the year. I've brought it up with the Penn State coach- es. We haven't gone in-depth about it yet, but it's de*nitely something we'll probably talk about more in the future. Is there anything you would like to say to Penn State fans? Maybe some- thing about yourself or about playing for PSU? If you could say anything to the fans, what would it be? There's only one thing you can say to Penn State fans: We are... ■ EARLY DECISION McGovern hadn't been a Penn State fan growing up, but once the Lions began recruiting him, he took an immediate interest, impressed by their committ- ment to both foot- ball and academics.
