just see the look in his eye," Aaron re-
membered. But he decided to hold o). A
couple months later, O'Brien le* for the
NFL and Johnson headed to Ohio State.
But it didn't sway his outlook.
"I just always liked Penn State," Carter
said. "I don't know what it was about it."
So he was thrilled to hear that his o)er
still stood once Franklin was hired, and
his excitement grew when he and his father
received feedback from former Gaithers-
burg player Sean Stanley, who had played
for Penn State and was a graduate assistant
under Franklin.
"[Stanley said] when they came in there
with that energy, he never experienced
anything like that while he's been there,"
Aaron said.
Kamonte had to see for himself, and
when he visited for the (rst Junior Day,
he committed on the spot, becoming one
of the (rst three recruits of Franklin's (rst
full recruiting cycle.
For Carter, for once, it was just con-
ventional wisdom.
Recalled Aaron, "Kamonte met them and
saw that energy that they have, plus with
all the other stu) [he learned] from Coach
Johnson, he just dived right in." ■
