NEWS & NOTES
Representatives of 30 NFL teams attended Penn
State's Pro Day on March 19 to meet and evaluate the
13 former Nittany Lions who are looking to reach the
pro level.
If the reactions of the players are any indication, the
scouts on hand probably didn't leave disappointed.
Working out for an audience made up of scouts,
coaches, teammates and media members, the Nittany
Lions' Pro Day participants appeared to put together a
good afternoon.
Defensive end Deion Barnes was one of the players
on hand. Listed at 6-foot-4, 257 pounds, Barnes ran a
hand-timed 4.98-
second 40-yard
dash and performed
31 reps on the bench
press.
"I think every-
thing went well," he
said. "I feel good
about my position
drills. I jumped
well. My shoulder
mount was strong. I
think everything went well today."
Barnes also elaborated on his decision to pass up his
senior season to enter the NFL Draft, saying he felt
that he "was physically, mentally ready."
"I talked with my family and everybody who was
close with me, and it felt like everybody was
telling me you've done enough, it's
your time," he said. "I went to the
Senior Bowl and I was able to
show myself there. There are a
