■ BASKETBALL RECRUITING picked up an offer from NC State during the fall and unofficially visited Oct. 1 for the Georgia Tech football game. He also has offers from Georgetown, Penn State, Xavier and VCU. Xavier Rathan-Mayes, Huntington (W.Va.) Prep: The smooth shooter from Toronto attended Creedmoor (N.C.) Christian Faith Academy last year, and attended numerous NC State football and basketball games. The 6-2, 175-pound Canadian, who picked up an NC State offer last April, eventually transferred to Hun- tington Prep. Rivals.com ranks the national recruiting tar- get No. 95 overall in the country, and he claims at least 12 offers. His father Tharon Mayes played for Florida State in the 1980s and had a brief career in the NBA. n Small Forwards Greg McClinton, Winston-Salem (N.C.) Prep: The above-the-rim high-riser, ranked No. 58 overall in the nation, came away with an NC State offer in August after an unofficial visit to Raleigh. The 6-6, 180-pounder is an improved jump shot away from making another big jump in the rankings. He also has earned offers from Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Miami, Missouri, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Xavier. Stanford Robinson, Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI: Rob- inson, an athletic slasher, unofficially visited NC State following the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions May 27-29 and returned with Hart on Oct. 1. The 6-4, 175-pounder is ranked No. 96 overall in the nation, and has picked up offers from NC State (offered in August), Virginia Tech, Miami, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Rutgers, South Florida, VCU, Massachusetts and Drexel. Sindarius Thornwell, Lancaster (S.C.) High: Thornwell has been a known commodity for a couple of years. He played with junior center target Kennedy Meeks on the Team United traveling squad, which is based out of Charlotte. The 6-5, 180-pounder is versatile and athletic, with Rivals.com ranking him No. 37 in the country. He also unofficially visited NC State after the Tournament of Champions and earned a scholarship offer. Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Miami, Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, Georgia Southern and Tennessee State have offered. n Post Players BeeJay Anya, Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catho- lic: Anya plays at DeMatha Catholic with Lyles, and will join Lyles, Robinson and Hart on next year's Team Takeover 17s squad. The 6-8, 250-pound wide body with the amazing 7-foot-9 wingspan has shed 30 pounds this fall. Anya is a true back-to-the-basket center and quality shot blocker. Rivals.com ranks him No. 29 overall in the nation, and he has offers from NC State, Georgetown, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, St. John's, Texas, UCLA and Tulsa. He'll have DeMatha Catholic teammates at Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Indiana next year. Kennedy Meeks, West Charlotte (N.C.) High: Meeks is similar in build to Anya and is also trying to im- prove his conditioning. The 6-8, 280-pounder is a gifted passer, has great hands and enjoys doing the dirty work inside, but can pop the jump shot. He led West Charlotte to the North Carolina 4A state title last year. Rivals. com ranks him No. 38 overall in the country, and he has picked up offers from NC State, Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Georgetown, Miami, South Carolina, Tennes- see, Wake Forest, Xavier, Charlotte, UMass and North • 7 Days A Week • Low Rates Various sizes available • Fenced/lighted/cameras • Insurance • Personal • Commercial • Boats • RVs • Mobile homes • Trucks • Outside storage available Buffaloe Mini Storage 772-2802 2107 Hwy. 70 east, garner 27529 Take I-40E Exit 306 to 70 E.
