OK, this one is provisional. If the Nittany Lions didn't win the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association tournament, which wrapped up on May 1, four days a:er BWI's deadline, feel free to skip to Page 62; Penn State won't be attending the na- tional tourney. However, if the Lions did win the EIVA tournament – and they en- joyed a typically strong regular season, going 12-0 in conference play to claim hosting rights for the tourney, then things could get interesting at nationals. The Lions got o9 to a slow start this season, dropping their 8rst six matches, but they re- bounded quite nicely in February and went undefeated on a spring break road trip to Southern California, with sweeps over USC, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State. Behind the play of senior outside hitter Aaron Russell and junior setter Taylor Hammond, they had risen to No. 7 in the AVCA coaches' poll as of late April. To keep that streak going, the Lions will need to stay focused, just as they were throughout their trip to the West Coast. Said longtime coach Mark Pavlik, who recently won his 500th career match, "Momentum is only as good as your next serve." ALL SPORTS Penn State second in Directors' Cup Penn State continues to rise in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, having moved up to No. 2 after the final winter rankings were released April 27. The Nittany Lions have finished No. 2 or 3 in the final winter Direc- tors' Cup standings the past six years. Over the past 10 years, Penn State has ranked no worse than No. 5 after the final winter standings, with 2004-05 the last time the Nittany Lions were not in the top five. Penn State was No. 4 in the final fall 2014 standings, earning its highest fall finish since being ranked No. 5 in 2010-11, and had moved to No. 3 in the previous Directors' Cup winter tally. The Lions earned their eighth consecutive top-10 finish for the fall sports season and 18th overall top-10 fall finish in the Directors' Cup. Penn State is seeking its 11th top- 10 overall finish in the 22 years of the Directors' Cup. The Nittany Lions were No. 5 in the 2013-14 standings. Nine winter teams competed in their respective NCAA champi- onships, boosting Penn State's total to 15 teams in NCAA competition this year, in addition to the football team winning the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. The women's gymnastics team par- ticipated in the NCAA regional at Oklahoma to boost the Nittany Lions past North Carolina and into second place in the Directors' Cup standings. Stanford leads the Directors' Cup with 1,101.5 points and is followed by Penn State (859.0), North Carolina (823.5), Wisconsin (748.5) and UCLA (731.25). Ohio State, Florida, Texas, Notre Dame and Minnesota round out the top 10. The Big Ten (four), Atlantic Coast Conference (two), Pac-12 (two), Big 12 (one) and Southeastern Conference (one) claimed the top 10 spots in the latest Directors' Cup standings. ■ SCORECARD
