PREP PROFILES Detroit Cass Tech athlete Demetric Vance concentrated on defense last season, and the new focus paid off. The three-star recruit was named As- sociated Press Division 1-2 first-team all-state at safety as a junior, and is ranked as the No. 13 player in Michi- gan and the No. 54 athlete nationally. "Every coach that offered me says that they like my style of play and my size," Vance said. "They like the way I'll come up and hit a ball car- rier. They say that some safeties are scared to hit sometimes. I don't have any fear about that." Vance picked up offers from Mich- igan, Ohio State, Nebraska, Penn State and Michigan State this spring, and he has visited with most of the schools at some point in the past. He was able to see Michigan during the spring session and came away feel- ing like part of the Wolverine family. "It felt like I was a student at Mich- igan already," he said. "The coaches really take you in like you are one of their own. They are really good at building those relationships. "It's real big that the Michigan coaches have so much NFL experi- ence. They come from the highest level, and they know what they are talking about. They know how to get the job done. They are more ad- vanced than other coaches because of that." Vance plans to hit the recruiting trail very hard this offseason and summer. "I'm going to Florida, Florida State, UCLA and back to Mi- ami," he listed. "None of those schools have offered, but maybe they will when I'm out there. "I'll be at the Nike camp in Columbus and S o u n d M i n d S o u n d Body in Detroit, too." Vance's timeline is vague right now, but he's got a window when he'd like to put an end to the process. "I was kind of looking forward to doing it before my senior season starts," he said. "At the end of the summer, sometime in August I hope to commit. "I really don't know how I'm going to do it yet, but when the day comes it's just going to happen." — Brandon Brown Detroit Athlete's Profile Continues To Grow ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Cass Tech High School Detroit Class: 2016 Position: Athlete Ht.: 6-3 • Wt.: 196 Rivals.com Rankings: No. 13 player in Michigan and No. 54 athlete in the country Demetric Vance Vance "It's real big that the Michigan coaches have so much NFL experience.
