INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Getting To Know Men's Basketball Freshman Point Guard Trey Burke Trey Burke, who won Mr. Basketball in Ohio last season as a high school senior, has been on cam- pus for only a few short months, but he's already made a monster impact on the basketball court. Burke was averaging 34.3 minutes per game in 18 contests through Jan. 16 — leading the team in minutes played — scoring 14.3 points per game with 4.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds per contest. Nickname: "'T.B.' A lot of my friends back at home call me 'T.B.' and a few players on the team call me 'TB3.' That's like my basketball nickname. Off the court, away from basketball, it's just 'T.B.'" Role model: "My role model would have to be a man named Anthony Rhodman. He's been a big mentor to me, and I look up to him because he does a good job of showing me the right way to do things. Not only on he basketball court, but away from the court, too. I've known him for three or four years. Of course my parents [Alfonso Jr. and Ronda Burke] are big role models, but away from my family, Anthony Rhodman has been a big influence." Favorite Class At U-M: "Sports Management 101. It's a small group with a lot of public speaking. I like it because it's some- thing I can relate to, and I had to do five or six presentations up in front of the class. It gave me confidence to speak out, and that can translate to the court." Burke was averaging 14.3 points, 4.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game through Jan. 16. PHOTO BY PER KJELDSEN Favorite Restaurant in Ann Arbor: "It's kind of typical, but I'd have to go with Olive Garden. The Tour Of Italy, I love that dish." Best Meal He Can Cook By Himself: "Spaghetti. That's my favorite food. And macaroni and cheese. I'm a big pasta guy." Favorite TV Show: "I really don't watch a lot of TV because I'm so busy with school and basket- ball. If I had to pick one, it would be old 'Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air' episodes." Favorite Professional Athlete: "My favorite all time is Allen Iverson, but right now it's Chris Paul. I'm excited to see what he can do with Blake Griffin and the L.A. Clippers. That's a good combination." Other Sports He Enjoys Playing: "Football. I didn't really know what sport I liked more, be- tween basketball and football, when I was younger. I really enjoyed football, but basketball is my love." Major: "Undecided" What He Wants To Do After Basketball: "I have ideas. I'd like to be an entrepreneur and own my own business. But I haven't really looked into that much yet." Overall U-M Experience: "It's been so great. I'm well adjusted now, and I love it here. I picked the right school, definitely." — Andy Reid ■ Exclusive check designs cost 50% less than the bank's ■ Hi-tech security features ■ 100% Guarantee SAVE TIME—CALL TOLL-FREE TODAY!
