JULY 2015 ■ 13 TRACKING THE PACK Conor Donovan, Men's Soccer The Fuquay-Varina, N.C., native only played one year in Raleigh, starting 15 games as a defender and notch- ing a goal and an assist. He was drafted with the 22nd overall pick this spring and signed by Orlando City SC in the MLS, and then in June was selected to replace an injured player on the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team. NC State Hall of Famer and former soccer star Tab Ramos coaches the U-20 National Team. Ryen and Wesley Frazier, Women's Cross Country/Track Dyestat.com, which covers high school track and cross country, called the sisters from Raleigh the "Fra - zier Dynasty" after younger sister Ryen Frazier won three national titles at the New Balance Outdoor Championships in Greensboro in June, sweeping the 5,000-meter, one-mile and two-mile runs. Between Wesley and Ryen, the two have won 13 New Bal- ance National titles. Wesley transferred from Duke to NC State last fall and won the Raleigh Relays 5K in May in meet-record time while running unattached. That same day, Ryen won the 3,200-meter race with the fourth fastest prep time in the country. Nyheim Hines, Football Before he arrived at NC State to begin his Wolfpack football career, Hines picked up one more honor to cap his stellar prep career at Garner (N.C.) High. The Raleigh News and Observer named him its high school Male Athlete of the Year. The paper cited Hines setting a new Garner school career rushing record after run - ning for 2,362 yards last fall and winning the 4-A indoor 55-meter sprint championship as the primary reasons for selecting him. Rachel Mumma, Women's Diving The rising fifth-year senior from Harrisburg, Pa., is building off her honorable mention All-America finish in the one-meter dive at the NCAA Championships this past season, an event for which she holds the school- record score. Mumma earned an official spot on the USA Diving National Team, which will participate in the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju City, South Korea, in July. She is the first Wolfpack diver in school history to get a spot on the Team USA roster. Rachael Taylor, Women's Golf The rising senior from Bad Griesbach, Germany, has been chosen to play for Team Scotland at the European Ladies Championship after her successful junior season. Taylor led NC State with a 74.73 scoring average, and she was at her best in the postseason. She led the Pack in scoring both at the NCAA Regional and NCAA Championships, and Taylor was named to the Women's Golf Coaches' Association All-Raleigh Regional Team. She tied for fifth place and shot even par at the regional May 7-9. Trea Turner, Baseball The former Pack standout may be joining his classmate Carlos Rodon in the major leagues sooner rather than later. After Turner's trade from the San Diego Padres to the Washington Nationals was finalized, the former first- round draft pick and shortstop was promoted to the Nationals' Triple-A affiliate Syracuse. Turner was hitting .327 with five homers and 15 stolen bases in Double-A before the promotion. He was also selected the MLB Futures Game, an an - nual showcase for the minor league's top prospects. ■ PACK PERFORMERS "For most of the game, opponents seemed unwilling to try and match his physicality or his athleticism as he went wild around the rim. He finished powerful slams, caught alley-oops and even stepped out to shoot a good-looking 15-foot jumper from the baseline. It was simply a big-time performance from a player who has been proving he belongs as a big-time prospect throughout the grassroots circuit." — Rivals. com recruiting analyst Eric Bossi on Pinetown (N.C.) Northside senior center and Wolfpack basketball target Edrice Adebayo at NBPA Camp June 17‑20 (Rivals.com) "Lawrence entered with a target on his back as the nation's No. 1 prospect, and it was easy to see what all the hype is about. Lawrence has a great build, and he is able to keep his body low and play with great leverage. His win in the tiebreaker rep for the one-on-one championship of the Big Man Challenge was decisive and strong." — Rivals.com foot‑ ball recruiting analyst Jason Howell on Wake Forest (N.C.) High senior defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, who is a top NC State target, at the Rivals100 Five‑Star Challenge (Rivals.com) "I talked to [NCSU] Coach [Dave] Doeren and I explained to him what was going on with my father, and he was very understanding. He granted me a hardship waiver, and now I'm home and I am transferring to UF. Coach Doeren was very understanding. He's a family man, and he just told me, 'T.J., family comes first, and I understand that you are dealing with a family issue,' and he granted me the release." — NC State freshman center T.J. McCoy who transferred in mid‑June to Florida to be closer to his father, who is a former Gators player and has been fighting leukemia (The Orlando Sentinel) "At the end of the day, I trust the process. I know God's going to take me and put me where he wants to have me. I hope that's Seattle. I love it there, it's a great place. But I've gone through the ups and downs and been moved around before. I loved NC State and loved playing there, and then having to go somewhere else and start new." — Former NCSU quarterback Russell Wilson on his ongoing contract talks with the Seattle Seahawks (ESPN.com) "I appreciate anybody that believes in me and supports me — there's a lot of people who believe in you and don't believe in you. I try to prove people wrong a little bit. Hopefully, I can prove the Nats right since they believed in me for the most part since day one, at least the pro career. I'm thankful for that and excited to get in there and give it everything I've got for them."— Former NC State star shortstop Trea Turner on his unusual path in getting a delayed trade to the Washington Nationals organization (The Washington Post) "Look, Florida State is going to be a good team. They have good athletes and good coaches. Clemson's the same way. But I think that any Saturday — I've been on teams that beat Florida State, beat Clemson — anything can happen, and we can do it." ■ NC State fifth-year senior defensive end Mike Rose on competing for an Atlantic Division title this fall in the ACC (The Raleigh News & Observer) PHOTO BY KEN MARTIN QUOTING THE PACK
