JULY 2015 ■ 145 ■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING after checking in at 6-3½ and 212 pounds. He also had a 32.9-inch vertical leap and 4.4-second shuttle time. The key for Brown is translating his raw talents to the field more consistently. Brown is verbally commit- ted to Florida State, and de- spite taking some unofficial visits, including two to NC State, appears to favor sticking with the Noles. Rivals.com rates Brown as a four-star talent and the No. 18 weakside defensive end nationally. 14. MARK GILBERT, CB Fayetteville Terry Sanford High Gilbert has the genes. His cousin Zack Gilbert is a highly recruited defensive line- man at Charlotte's South Mecklenburg High and the son of former Pitt and NFL standout defensive lineman Sean Gilbert. Another cousin of Mark Gilbert is six- time Pro Bowl corner and Pitt product Der- relle Revis, and yet another cousin is Pitt rising redshirt junior defensive back Reggie Mitchell. On the field, the 6-2, 170-pounder has the height coaches cherish in corners. He compiled 34 tackles, three interceptions, six passes broken up and a fumble recovery last year. In June, Gilbert verbally committed to Duke over NC State, Michigan, Penn State, Pittsburgh and West Virginia, among oth- ers. Rivals.com rates Gilbert — who was selected by The Fayetteville Observer as the region's basketball player of the year — as a three-star recruit and the No. 52 cornerback nationally. 15. THAD MOSS, TE Charlotte Mallard Creek High Moss was a man among boys at Victory Christian in Charlotte last season, and he will spend his senior season at Mallard Creek, the two-time 4-AA state champ. Moss shined at both tight end and defensive end, but the son of future NFL Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss seems to prefer offense. The 6-3, 240-pound Moss released a top eight in June that consisted of Alabama, Arizona State, Georgia, Miami, NC State, Oregon, UCLA and West Virginia. He has visited NCSU twice during the offseason. Rivals.com rates Moss as a four-star tal- ent, and the No. 8 tight ends and No. 224 overall player nationally.
