M . | A U G . 2 1 | J E F F R E Y F I E L D Who better to kick o3 Penn State's 2015-16 athletic season than the women's soccer squad? The Penn State Tournament is the 2rst regular-season athletic event of the fall semester, and in their opener, the host Nittany Lions will take on a Hofstra side that last year reached the championship game of the Colonial Athletic Association tourna- ment. The Pride 2nished 13-7-1 and will be looking to pull o3 a shocker against the reigning Big Ten champs. Nittany Lion coach Erica Walsh welcomes the test. "It's the philosophy of the Penn State program to challenge ourselves as much as possible from August to October in order to have success in November and December," she said. The Lions will face Loyola Marymount in the tournament 2nale Aug. 23. SCORECARD TACKLES FROM PAGE 65 this story, both quickly denounced the idea. They would never do that, they said. After pausing to think of something that more accurately reflected their personalities, Zettel climbed onto Johnson's massive right shoulder. It wasn't unlike his decision to tackle a tree. The most fun choice came spon- taneously to a couple of genuine kids moonlighting as the nation's most dangerous defensive tackles every Saturday in the fall. "I think we actually have pretty sim- ilar personalities," said Zettel, a senior who is preparing for his final college season. "I'm just more quiet about mine," Johnson added. "He's a little more quiet and sensi- tive. We're both pretty sensitive for as big as we are," Zettel continued. "But I think that's what makes us pretty good together. We care about each other." Working in tandem toward common goals, on the field and off, they're de- termined to make the Nittany Lions' 2015 campaign one that fans, team- mates, coaches and especially oppo- nents won't forget. "It's rare to find a bond, like a brother, somebody who you trust with anything," Johnson said. "It's defi- nitely good to have that bond and trust on the field as well, especially having another year. It's going to be interest- ing." So interesting, Zettel said, that the possibilities are nearly limitless. "We want to be great. We have these goals to play in the league and do great things this year," he said. "We under- stand that we have to carry this de- fense, carry this team, and I feel like we're up for it. It's a big challenge, but to be a great player I feel like you have to do stuff like that. "I've never been so excited for a sea- son and to play next to him and just get out there on the field again with this guy." ■
