Trevor Williams plans to savor his final season at Penn State

pring practice had gotten under way
a week or so earlier, and Bill O'Brien
wanted to see sophomore wide re-
ceiver Trevor Williams in his office.
By the time their meeting ended,
Williams was a sophomore cornerback.
Recruited by Penn State to be a wideout
– he had caught 99 passes for 1,180 yards
as a senior at Calvert Hall College High
in his native Baltimore – Williams had
played his way out of a redshirt as a true
freshman, seeing action both on offense
and as a kick returner. But going into the
2013 season, the Nittany Lions needed
defensive backs. Eager to help the team
in any capacity, Williams switched posi-
tions without complaint or concern or
any emotion at all, really.
"I didn't really feel any [particular] way
about making the move," he recalled. "I
was ready to take on the challenge and
embrace the challenge. I went through
some adversity along the way, but I was
still eager to get better as a player."
Much of that adversity, at least initially,
came in the form of Big Ten Receiver of
the Year Allen Robinson. Williams often
