TOP WOMEN'S TEAMS The women's soccer team came very close to notching a fourth national title for Virginia, advancing to the College Cup final for the first time in school history. UVa, which reached the four-team College Cup for the second consecutive year, was the highest scoring team (3.52 goals per game) in Division I en route to a 23-3 record. The Cavaliers' school-record 88 goals were the most nationally since North Carolina scored 89 goals in 2008. Sixteen different Cavaliers scored a goal this season, including 12 players with multiple goals and eight players with at least four goals. The women's swimming and diving squad won its eighth consecutive ACC championship and 13th overall, and then posted a program-best fifth-place show- ing at the NCAA Championships. Individ- ually, second-year Leah Smith became the first swimmer in program history to win a pair of national championships (500- and 1,650-yard freestyle) in the same season. The rowing team swept all five races on its way to winning its sixth straight ACC title, and its 15th in the 16-year history of the competition. On the national scene, the Cavaliers finished fifth at the NCAA Championships. It marked the third consecutive season Virginia placed fifth at the national regatta and it is the ninth straight season it has finished in the top six. Along the way, the varsity four boat of fourth-year coxswain Julia Roithmayr, fourth-year stroke Maggie Bowman- Jones, second-year three-seat Marijane Brennan and third-year two-seat Hannah Solis-Cohen claimed a national title. It was UVa's ninth boat national championship and the fifth time it has won the varsity four (2004, 2005, 2007 and 2010). Also notable, the women's tennis team (23-6) claimed its second consecutive ACC championship and advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Championships for the fifth straight season; the field hockey squad was the ACC regular-season co-champion and was ranked as high as No. 3 in the NFHCA polls; the women's lacrosse team earned its 20th consecutive NCAA Tournament bid; and the women's golf program won its first-ever conference title and then tied for 20th at the NCAA Championships.
