32 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BY MATT CARTER F or the local media covering NC State, football season starts getting real long before the opening game Sept. 5 against Troy. ACC Kickoff in July is the unofficial start date of the new campaign. Thus the NC State beat writers have been studying up and probing the Wolfpack's prospectus for the 2015 season for much of the summer. The Wolfpacker asked three of them the same seven questions to get a feel for how those covering NCSU feel about the team. Contributing to this media roundtable were Sammy Batten, a longtime writer for The Fayetteville Observer who covers the Triangle area colleges and in-state football recruiting; Joe Giglio, entering his fourth season on the State beat for The Raleigh News and Observer; and Powell Latimer, a Greensboro native who returned home to cover college sports for The Greensboro News and Record in 2014 after covering the Florida State beat for Warchant.com on the Rivals.com network. What are the keys for NC State to reach its maximum potential? Batten: "Staying healthy is the key to the Wolfpack's season in my mind. NC State has the talent to compete with anyone when it comes to the starting 22 players and be- yond at certain positions. But one or two injuries on the offensive line, receiver or — heaven forbid — something happens to Jacoby Brissett at quarterback, then things could unravel quickly." Giglio: "A little more consistency from ON THE BEAT Local Sportswriters Provide Their Analysis Of NC State Football Before The 2015 Season A healthy, more consistent fifth-year senior Jacoby Brissett was cited as a key to success for NC State this season.
