"A lot of guys were just like me and have to learn the program," he said. "Things like going to bed on time and waking up on time. When I see guys struggling, it reminds me of when I was a freshman. You have to learn the schedule. I just tell them, 'If you need anything, just call me.'" Departed defensive tackles Thomas Teal and T.Y. McGill gave Nelson plenty of knowledge to soak up over the last couple of years. "I wouldn't say I leaned on them, but when I saw them do stuff the correct way, as a freshman, you couldn't help but not learn the right way," Nelson said. He knows the opposition will be treating him seriously when the center and guard start double-teaming him. When a nose guard gets single blocking, that's when it becomes a concern. "When you aren't being double-teamed, that's a problem," Nelson said. "When I get a single block, I try to make the play because that is an insult to me." — Jacey Zembal Redshirt Freshman Garrett Bradbury Moves To Offensive Line The way that NC State redshirt fresh- man Garrett Bradbury sees it, he's got a pretty good arm in case Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren needs an emergency quarterback. That's highly unlikely, but Bradbury's selflessness was shown when he opened preseason camp at his third different posi- tion since arriving in Raleigh last summer. Bradbury was recruited to play tight end/ fullback for NC State. He redshirted there last fall; then before spring was called by Doeren about a dilemma. Sophomore de- fensive tackle Justin Jones was injured, and at that point the Pack still had sophomore Kentavius Street at end. "We didn't have depth at the three-tech- nique defensive tackle at that point," Brad- bury noted. "He asked me if I played it in high school, and I made the move happily." Bradbury went from a 6-3, 250-pound tight end/fullback wearing No. 38 to more than 270 pounds and wearing No. 91. That did not last long, however. Bradbury re- ceived a text from Doeren July 31, days be- fore the team reported to fall camp Aug. 3. Bradbury had a hunch what the meet- ing was about, and his suspicions were confirmed.
