PREP PROFILES He attends Trinity High School in Euless, Texas, but defensive tackle Chris Daniels isn't a native of the Lone Star State. He was born in Arkansas and has spent plenty of time in Texas, but he also has family in the state of Michigan and played his soph - omore year of high school ball at Mona Shores High School in Muskegon. That gave him an early affin - ity for the Maize and Blue, and n o w t h a t h e ' s g r o w n i n t o a Rivals250 defensive tackle at 6-3, 301 pounds, the Wolverines have a built-in advantage. That was a boost when he made an August visit to campus. "When I was little, I always wanted to go to Michigan and be a Wolverine, so it was pretty cool to go up there and see how they practice and stuff," Daniels said. "I know their D-line is kind of young, but I see a lot of potential. Coach [Greg] Mattison is a really good coach. Coach Harbaugh is really nice. The facilities and everything were really nice. "But one thing that really stood out to me is they say you have a scholarship for life. You can come back and get a degree at any point. That really opened my mother 's eyes. I don't know if that's her favorite now, but she really likes them." Daniels notched 45 tackles and seven sacks as a junior, and is look - ing to take the next step in his pro- duction as a se- nior. Before that, though, he'll also narrow his list of college contend - ers. With more than two dozen scholarship of- fers in the mix — including the M i a m i , O h i o State, Oklahoma and USC — he would like to nar - row his focus soon. "I'm going to make my list down to five at the beginning of the school year," he said. "Then I'll make it to three when the playoffs hit and then that's how I'll choose. I'll choose from three hats like I always wanted to do since I was little. Then that'll be it." The final decision will likely come on his birthday, Dec. 18. By that time, he'll know how each remain - ing contender meets his criteria. "What teams can actually show me — not only what's best for me for football, but best for my life," Daniels said of what will determine which school he chooses. — Tim Sullivan Texas Defensive Tackle Has Michigan Connections ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Trinity High School Euless, Texas Class: 2016 Position: Defensive Tackle Ht.: 6-3 • Wt.: 301 Rivals.com Rankings: No. 17 prospect in Texas, and No. 16 defensive tackle and No. 160 overall player in the country Chris Daniels
