Chase Winovich, TE: Harbaugh
made a habit of utilizing two-way
players at Stanford, and while Win-
ovich is not seeing time at linebacker
now, he could in the future. In the
present, he's filling a need at tight
end, and because of his physical
toughness and football grit, the for-
mer high school quarterback por-
tends to contribute quickly at his
new position.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Michael Ferns, LB: A lynchpin
recruit in the class responsible for
wooing other prospects to join him in
Ann Arbor, Ferns decided to transfer
to West Virginia after Brady Hoke
was fired in Dec. 2014. He cited a
desire to be closer to his family in
Clairsville, Ohio (90 miles from
WVU's campus compared to close to
300 miles from Ann Arbor).
REPORT CARD — INC.
Without quantity in this class, the
2014 cohort will be measured by
what a few select individuals do.
The good news is that in safety Ja-
brill Peppers, offensive lineman Ma-
son Cole, tight end Ian Bunting, and
defensive linemen Bryan Mone and
Lawrence Marshall, the haul appears
to feature at least five impact per-
formers and possibly more.
If those five pan out, and if Pep-
pers, Cole and Mone garner All-
America honors before their careers
end, this class will likely receive a
favorable final grade. ❏
Sophomore wideout Maurice Ways has the speed to become a vertical threat for the
Wolverines, but he must improve his hands.
