T he college football world might be talking about him, but Michigan head coach Jim Har- baugh isn't necessarily compelled to respond. In fact, August in Ann Arbor has become the quiet before the storm. Harbaugh dem- onstrated quickly upon arrival he's not into giving away big secrets about his football team. He'll start sharing deep in- sights on strategy and personnel in concurrence with Donald Trump entering a coun- seling program to overcome shyness. These days, Harbaugh isn't talking, period. Of course, he called his shot in this regard. On Michigan's football media day Aug. 6, the head football coach quite amiably bid farewell to the cameras, digital recorders, microphones, etc. "Just to let you know, we're going into the submarine tomorrow," Har- baugh said. "You won't see us for a while. You won't hear from us or see us. We're going to be working. We're going to be in a bunker mentality, until we decide we're not, until we decide to come up to the surface. "It is wonderful being here today and seeing every- body. Hope you understand that. I don't know, Dave [Ablauf, football media relations director], what you had planned for me or the players, but there won't be a whole lot … we won't be seeing much of each other." Then he made good on that promise. Through the 11 days of Michigan football camp that followed, the Wolverines went as silent as Marko Ramius and Red October. Not that there hasn't been a leak here and there. Sophomore defensive tackle Bryan Mone's leg injury (un- confirmed by Michigan football at press time) became the talk of a num- ber of sources. Others spoke about redshirt fresh- man Jabrill Peppers not seeing early snaps on offense, while getting ac- tion at cornerback as well as nickel.
