BASKETBALL RECRUITING and I feel I have a great relationship with Maryland, as good as anyone else," Huerter said. "The Maryland coaches see me as a combo, able to come off screens and create and find people, but also let other people find me and hit shots — just a guy able to do multiple things." Huerter averaged 12.2 points and 3.3 assists per game in 26.8 minutes per contest in Nike Elite Yo u t h B a s k e t b a l l League (EYBL) play, helping the Rocks to an 11-7 regular-sea- son record. He made 44 of 110 three-point attempts over 18 games (40.0 percent). He was named Class AA second- team all-state by the New York State Sportswriters Asso- ciation as a junior, helping Shenende- howa to a 25-1 overall record and the Class AA state championship while averaging 17.5 points per game. His father, Tom Huerter, denied rumblings that Maryland and Notre Dame had emerged as his son's leaders. "I think those are two schools that Kevin has great relationships with," he told BlueandGold.com of the Ri- vals network. "But I think it would be very premature to say those are the frontrunners, because he's got a lot of quality programs that are inter- ested in him. "We don't take this lightly. He is very lucky to have the opportunity to visit these schools, and for these schools to be interested in him. He's dealing with great people on the coach- ing staffs of mul- tiple schools, so it would be unfair to those schools to say Maryland and Notre Dame right now are the frontrunners. "He likes those schools a lot from a distance, and that's why we need to get to those schools, to take the next step." His dad also said a 2017 reclassifica- tion isn't out of the question, noting his son could make a late-September de- cision. " I f h e f i n d s a school that he absolutely falls in love with and the only option is a 2017 graduation class, then he un- derstands that he can go to prep school," his dad said. "That's what his older brother is doing, using that year to reclassify and help his college choices. "But because there are so many schools that want him for 2016, it's not necessarily at the forefront right now." Huerter isn't the only 2016 target Michigan is pursuing who could Clifton Park (N.Y.)
