OLYMPIC SPORTS events last year, shooting below‑par in 11 of 37 rounds with a season aver‑ age of 72.86 strokes per round. He was the medalist runner‑up at the NCAA regional, with a 9‑under‑par 207 to ad‑ vance to NCAA Finals as an individual. "He doesn't hit it the furthest. He doesn't have the best looking swing. The strength of his game is his men‑ tal approach and consistency," Whitten said. "The good news for Kyle is there are things, technically in his game, that can get better. "I think some of that is just developing confidence that he has seen the best players in college golf, and he knows he can play with them. There is no intimi‑ dation factor. He is out there to win if he has his best game that week." Athletes To Watch: Senior Chris O'Neill and junior Reed Hyrnewich ranked second and third, respectively, a year ago with scoring averages of 73.15 and 74.39 strokes per round, and both are coming off strong summers. "This time last year, Chris was with‑ drawing from tournaments because of back pain," Whitten said. " We've done some corrective things and have worked hard on it so he can just go play and think about golf now. "He has higher expectations for the season than anybody does, and I expect him to do really well. "Reed is so much better than he was two years ago, and that's his work ethic. He's in the best shape of anyone on our team, and he practices the longest. He knows exactly what he wants to do. I expect a very, very good year from Reed." Don't Miss: Michigan does not have a home tournament all year, including the spring season. Junior Reed Hyrnewich ranked third on the team with a scoring average of 74.39 strokes per round in 2014-15, and he is com- ing off a strong summer. PHOTO COURTESY MICHIGAN ATHLETIC MEDIA RELATIONS
