INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS
Michigan Will Wear All-White Uniforms On The Road
Adidas' last go around with Michigan will be a memorable one. The apparel
provider is outfitting the Wolverines with all-white road uniforms in 2015,
bringing to mind shades of 1974 — and according to some close to the pro-
gram, it was by head coach Jim Harbaugh's request.
Michigan has experimented with alternate jerseys in recent years, including
a "bumblebee" striped sleeve in a night game with Notre Dame, and then on
the road at Michigan State in 2011. The road game in East Lansing was the last
time U-M wore white pants.
Michigan recruiting coordinator Chris Partridge added an artist's rendition of
the jersey in his own tweet after the news broke, featuring a No. 4 player div-
ing with the ball in the 1974 replica uniforms. It also has Harbaugh's signature,
which is what they send to recruits to confirm it's officially from the staff.
The 1974 season was one of Harbaugh's first memories of Michigan football,
his family's second season in Ann Arbor with his dad as a U-M assistant coach
under head coach Bo Schembechler. The Wolverines wore the all-white uni-
forms for two seasons, including the 1976 Orange Bowl against Oklahoma.
Harbaugh said in July there would be no alternate jerseys this season. The
Wolverines are expected to wear these road whites all year.
Michigan last wore white pants in a game against Michigan State in 2011, but all-white
road uniforms will return for the Wolverines in 2015.
