Top 10 Fighting Irish Players From Virginia Former head coach Ara Parseghian's staff (1964‑74) was the first to make some more consistent inroads into the state, and the star power began to increase in the 1980s. 1. Allen Pinkett (Sterling, 1982‑85) — Nobody in school history has scored more touchdowns (53) or points (320) than Pinkett, a remarkable model of consistency, reliability and durability. He eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards each of his last three seasons, is No. 2 on the Irish all‑time rushing chart (4,131 yards) and his 73 career catches averaged 10.6 yards per reception. The highlight of his four‑year tenure in South Bend was his 76‑yard touchdown run as a freshman that propelled the Irish to an upset of No. 1 Pitt. 2. Wayne "The Train" Bullock (Newport News, 1972‑74) — Before Notre Dame rode "The Bus" with Annandale, Va., native Andy Heck played tight end his first three seasons before serving as an All- American left tackle for the 1988 Irish.
