a knee injury, Adams split time with
senior wide receiver turned running
back C.J. Prosise in the backfield. His
first career carry went 14 yards for a
touchdown in the first quarter to make
it 14-0. Four touches later, he split the
defense for a 25-yard score in the third
quarter.
"We felt like he was a kid that was
under the radar last year," Kelly said
of the former three-star recruit. "He's
just scratching the surface. He's got
elite speed. He's got great size and
good ball skills. Obviously, he's a kid
that we believe in."
Adams finished with 49 yards on
five carries. Prosise carried the ball
a team-high 20 times for 98 yards —
with 55 of those yards coming in a
third quarter which saw the Irish build
a 31-3 lead.
"We knew what we were capable
of," fifth-year senior center Nick Mar-
tin said. "We had some mental errors
and some stuff happened in the first
half, and I thought we were cleaner in
the second half."
Kelly was pleased with Zaire's home
debut, particularly his passing.
"We felt like he was more than just a
runner," Kelly said. "He clearly has the
