PREP PROFILES When Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco four-star all-purpose back Sean McGrew committed to Washington in May, he said he picked the Huskies be- cause he thought the school was the perfect fit for him and his family. But just because McGrew claims that Washington feels like home doesn't mean that he won't c o n s i d e r N o t r e Dame. McGrew told Ri- vals recruiting ana- lyst Adam Gorney after the first game of his senior season Aug. 28 that he has been hearing from the Irish, and he's more than just in- terested in the pro- gram. " N o t r e D a m e has been in contact with me since my sophomore year, but they never offered me because of my size," McGrew said. "But I have started to hear more from [Notre Dame associate head coach Mike Denbrock]. He said they plan to take one running back and have one committed right now, but if they decide to take a second I could be the guy." While it's true, Notre Dame does have a running back committed with Bra- denton (Fla.) IMG Academy three-star back Tony Jones on board, the Irish have flirted with the idea of taking a dynamic athlete that can line up in the slot and the backfield, and McGrew fits the bill. The 5-7, 172-pound athlete, who is ranked by Rivals as the No. 6 all-pur- pose back in the country, posted a Nike Football Rating score of 136.5 at The Opening back in July. He clocked a time of 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash, ran a 4.09 pro-shuttle and added a 41.8- inch vertical jump. It was a perfor- mance that ranked as the best out of any running back at the event in a test of overall athletic abil- ity. "They haven't really talked to me about what exact role they would see me in at Notre Dame," McGrew said. " But I think it could be as a straight running back or wide receiver. I feel that I can do both." McGrew insists his commitment to Washington is "very solid," but did add a caveat. "If I end up getting an offer from Notre Dame, I'll take a visit," he ex- plained. "I have a lot of family back in Indiana because that's where my dad is from. It would be cool to just experience that visit and see what they have to offer as a school." — Andrew Ivins Washington Commit Is Open To Notre Dame SEAN MCGREW ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ St. John Bosco High School Bellflower, Calif.
