reverse, redshirt junior quarterback
Matt Johns — who began the play
lined up wide — tossed a 42-yard
touchdown to junior wide receiver
Keeon Johnson for a 14-12 lead.
Notre Dame scored consecutive
touchdowns in the third quarter to
pull ahead 26-14, but the game was
not yet secure.
Following a 24-yard scoring scam-
per by Prosise the play after Zaire's
injury, Virginia answered with a six-
play, 75-yard scoring drive. After the
Cavaliers forced an Irish punt, they
had the ball trailing 26-21.
On third down, senior cornerback
KeiVarae Russell came on the blitz,
registered a sack and forced a fumble
that was recovered by senior defen-
sive end Romeo Okwara.
The Irish went three-and-out and
punted for the second straight time
with Kizer under center, and the Cav-
aliers took over with 7:55 left.
On the ensuing drive, the Cava-
liers faced a third-and-15 at the Irish
35 when Johns found sophomore
tight end Ryan Santoro open on the
sideline for a 34-yard gain. Virginia
punched it in on the next play to take
a 27-26 lead. The two-point conver-
sion failed.
Then, Kizer and the rest of the of-
fense took the field with 1:54 remain-
ing. The sophomore threw passes
Fuller 's way three straight plays,
with only an eight-yard completion to
show for it. Prior to a fourth-and-two
play at their own 28, the Irish called
timeout. After the break in play, Kizer
