in total yards. The highlight of the first half for Virginia came with 3:04 remaining in the second quarter on a trick play of its own. After a double reverse, redshirt junior quarterback Matt Johns — who began the play lined up wide — tossed a 42-yard touchdown to junior wide receiver Keeon Johnson for a 14-12 lead. Notre Dame scored consecutive touchdowns in the third quarter to pull ahead 26-14, but the game was not yet secure. Following a 24-yard scoring scam- per by Prosise the play after Zaire's injury, Virginia answered with a six- play, 75-yard scoring drive. After the Cavaliers forced an Irish punt, they had the ball trailing 26-21. On third down, senior cornerback KeiVarae Russell came on the blitz, registered a sack and forced a fumble that was recovered by senior defen- sive end Romeo Okwara. The Irish went three-and-out and punted for the second straight time with Kizer under center, and the Cav- aliers took over with 7:55 left. On the ensuing drive, the Cava- liers faced a third-and-15 at the Irish 35 when Johns found sophomore tight end Ryan Santoro open on the sideline for a 34-yard gain.
