GAME PREVIEW: GEORGIA TECH
BY JORDAN WELLS
O
n Nov. 3, 2007, then-Navy head
coach Paul Johnson marched
the 3-4 Midshipmen into Notre
Dame Stadium to take on then-
head coach Charlie Weis and the 1-6
Fighting Irish.
Entering that contest, Navy had lost
43 consecutive games to Notre Dame
— at the time the nation's longest los-
ing streak by a school against an op-
ponent. However, Johnson's squad
emerged with a 46-44 triple-overtime
win to end the skid that began in 1963,
when Roger Staubach was Navy's
quarterback.
Now the head coach at Georgia
Tech, Johnson is bringing his triple op-
tion back to Notre Dame Stadium. His
team boasts some talent on both sides
of the ball, including an impressive
quarterback in redshirt junior Justin
Thomas — a second-team All-ACC
selection in 2014, and the MVP of last
season's Orange Bowl.
However, Johnson isn't facing a 1-6
squad in this trip to South Bend. The
Irish were ranked No. 9 nationally
