FOOTBALL RECRUITING

D
etroit Martin Luther King four-
star wide receiver Donnie Corley
needed just five words to describe
Notre Dame's 38-3 blowout of Texas
Sept. 5 during his unofficial visit.
"It was a statement win," he said.
Corley's right, it was, and while
Notre Dame's performance against
Texas is one that will certainly have an
impact on the rest of the season for the
Irish, who hope to make a run at the
College Football Playoff, the program
could also see an immediate ripple ef-
fect on the recruiting trail.
On the opening weekend of college
football, Notre Dame welcomed more
than 35 recruits from around the coun-
try to South Bend to watch the Irish
face the Longhorns.
The group got more than just a game
under the lights.
"It was a crazy atmosphere," Corley
said. "I thought it was going to be a
little closer than that, but it was a great
win with the fans and everything."
