UNDER THE DOME
Irish student-athletes excelling
on the field and in the classroom
Brandon Aubrey — Soccer
The junior defender was named the ACC Defensive Player
of the Week after helping the Irish register a pair of shutouts
in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic, a 0‑0 tie versus Mary‑
land Aug. 28 and a 1‑0 win over Indiana Aug. 30. The former
top‑25 recruit nationally, according to College Soccer News,
helped the shutout streak continue with a 2‑0 triumph over
South Florida Sept. 4 — a contest in which he also notched a
goal — and a 4‑0 victory versus UAB Sept. 6.
Ryann DeJarld — Volleyball
The freshman libero and former second‑team Under Ar‑
mour All‑American earned Seton Hall Classic all‑tournament
team honors after recording 30 digs in a 3‑2 win over Hofstra
Sept. 5. The game‑high dig total was the fifth‑most posted by
a Notre Dame player in a single contest since 2011, and the
most digs in one match since former All‑Big East performer
Kristen Dealy had 34 at Villanova in 2010.
Sydney Foreman — Cross Country
The sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., placed as the indi‑
vidual runner‑up in the Crusader Classic hosted by Valparaiso
University Aug. 31, finishing the 5,000‑meter event with a
time of 17:56. The former all‑state selection in both cross
country and track as a senior in high school was the top run‑
ner for the Irish, and finished behind winner Hope Schmeizie
(Purdue) by only 10 seconds (17:46).
Cari Roccaro — Soccer
The senior midfielder/defender was nominated as one of
only 30 student‑athletes nationally to the 2015 Senior CLASS
Award list, an honor that recognizes student‑athletes for no‑
table achievements in four areas — community, classroom,
character and competition. The two‑time team captain has
started all six games for a Notre Dame squad that surren‑
dered just three goals during its 5‑0‑1 start.
