PREP PROFILES Mac Hippenhammer might not have any stars next to his name, but just because the Fort Wayne (Ind.) Snider junior athlete is unranked doesn't mean that he won't get a look from Notre Dame a t s o m e p o i n t down the line. H i p p e n h a m - mer, who holds early offers from To l e d o , M i a m i (Ohio) and East- ern Michigan, was in South Bend the weekend of Sept. 5 for an unofficial visit. He was invited to campus by Irish recruiting coordinator Mike Elston and said the trip was well worth the short drive. "One of my high school coaches knows some of the coaches at Notre Dame, and he said that they were real interested in me," Hippenhammer said. "Then when Sept. 1 hit, Coach Elston messaged me. He said he saw me at a camp in July and was im- pressed, so I just wanted to get over there for a game. "It was good," he added. "The at- mosphere is great, and I like the peo- ple there. I just had a real good time." While Hippenhammer might al- ready hold a few low-level scholar- ship offers, he said that he has heard from a number of programs like Notre Dame, and each one of them has told him the same thing. "They want more film," Hippen- hammer said. "That's really what they all have said. They like me, but they just want to see a little bit more before offering." H i p p e n h a m - mer went on to explain that his re- cruitment remains wide open even with interest from schools like Michi- gan State, Tennes- see and Purdue, but he appears to already have one favorite this early in the recruiting process. "Notre Dame is my dream school," he said. "It would probably be my top choice, if they offered." The 6-0, 165-pound athlete projects best as a wide receiver, but he could also play defensive back at the next level. He said that the plan is to get back on campus sometime before the end of the season and stay in contact with the coaching staff. "I don't have anything set, but I think I'm going to be seeing them play Georgia Tech — but that's not final," he said. "I know for a fact I'll be at the Wake Forest game, though." — Andrew Ivins In-State Junior Athlete A Name To Know MAC HIPPENHAMMER Snider High School Fort Wayne, Ind.
