And as that number suggests, the O-line had a terrific night, too, plowing open big holes in a defensive front that had given up only 39 yards per game through two games. Also, for the second week in a row, PSU didn't give up a sack. BAD NEWS Christian Hackenberg had an uneven night, missing on a few short passes and only completing 10 of 19 attempts for 141 yards. The down- field passing game is still a missing element in PSU's offense. THE TAKEAWAY It's hard to believe this was the same team that flat-lined against Temple two weeks ago. Barkley has really put a charge in Penn State's offense, and the defense is looking as stout as ever. If only PSU could have that night-game at- mosphere every weekend. 1 N A T E   B A U E R | N B A U E R @ B L U E W H I T E O N L I N E . c O m 'DAYLIGHT FOR DAYS' A powerful ground game lifts the Lions past Rutgers Akeel Lynch saw the defensive alignment and just hoped. With Penn State leading Rutgers, 14-0, follow- ing a Saquon Barkley touchdown carry, Lynch and the offense had quickly gotten the ball back with just 1 minute, 4 seconds remaining until halBime. Rather than taking a knee, the Nittany Lions sensed an opportunity with quarterback Christian Hackenberg given a run/pass option. "Just give me the ball so I can score," Lynch thought to himself. Hackenberg fulfilled his hopes, choosing the handoff over a pass to DaeSean Hamilton. What Lynch saw from there helped clinch what would become a 28-3 victory in front of another rain- soaked Beaver Stadium crowd. "It was amazing," THE HOLE STORY Lynch scores on a 75- yard run late in the first half. Photo by Steve Manuel
