INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS meeting between the schools, keeps bringing it up. His most recent men- tion occurred on The Rich Eisen Show Sept. 9. "I think it's trending up," Kelly said, "It's something that we need to get in line to get that going. I think that's something that everybody wants to get going and get Michigan back on the schedule. I think that sentiment is coming back to the fore- front of where college football needs to be and some of those classic rival- ries coming back together. I know we're going to be working hard to see if we can get that done. "I think we're going to see it hap- pen." Resolving any lingering bad feel- ings about recent developments in the series might be the easiest prob- lem to fix. Former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke accused Notre Dame of "chickening out" of the se- ries after former Director of Athlet- ics David Brandon was handed an envelope declaring the series end by Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick, just prior to the 2012 contest. Swarbrick's move assured the Irish of getting the last game in the se- ries, and rumblings out of Michigan viewed it as lacking class in the de- livery. But those sorts of back-and- forth sidebars are par for the course with Michigan and Notre Dame, which have viewed each other with respect on the field and disdain off it all the way back to Fielding H. Yost and Knute Rockne. A bigger issue is finding dates to play. Notre Dame took on a five-game Atlantic Coast Conference schedule each year when opting out of the Michigan series, and U-M dates are heavily scheduled out into the future. Michigan Interim Director of Ath- letics Jim Hackett says it just sounds right that the Wolverines and Irish meet up on the football field. "I just would say that as a Roman Catholic little kid, I loved the Golden Dome and everything they stand for," Hackett said. "It feels to me like the two storied programs should be playing each other. They should fig- ure out a way to do it." That said, he added: "We're not in process with any kind of negotiation about that." THEWOLVERINE.COM POLL RESULTS Each month, TheWolverine.com runs a new poll for its readers to vote on.
