COMMITMENT PROFILE It couldn't have gone better. They were driving, but not even out of Michigan yet when Simpson told his dad he wanted to be a Wolverine. He was extremely comfortable with Beilein and his assistants and called to commit. "When I took my unofficial there, it just felt like the right college for me," Simpson said at his press confer- ence. "They obviously have a point guard system … an example is what they did with Trey Burke. Things they were saying to me about preparing for the next level on and off the court, and the education is obviously great … that definitely struck my heart. "When I stepped on campus, it felt like my atmosphere. It felt like a place I needed to be — a place I wanted to be." Simpson, the Associated Press Di- vision I Player of the Year in Ohio after averaging 19.8 points per game FILM EVALUATION Strengths: Xavier Simpson plays with no fear, is a true court general and can score in the lane or with a jump shot. He has one of the best pull-up and step-back jumpers in his class, and is a warrior on both ends of the court with the heart of a lion. Areas of Improvement: Simpson was considered an average shooter last year, but time in the gym has im- proved that aspect dramatically. He'll need to get in the weight room and get stronger, much like many high school seniors prepping for college. Michigan Player Comparison: Call Simpson Trey Burke lite. It's not fair to say he'll be the next Burke, but he's got many of the same char- acteristics — and he's a winner. — Analysis from TheWolverine.com
