output (213-101), while Fuller (9-of-12
passing for 124 yards) outdueled Mon-
tana (3-of-9 passing for 53 yards).
Notre Dame's offense began the
second half with a three-and-out, and
Clemson responded with a 52-yard
touchdown drive that culminated on
a two-yard run on fourth-and-goal in
which cornerback Ted Burgmeier ap-
peared to have the angle on running
back Lester Brown heading to the pylon,
only be to walled off by referee W.R.
Cummings on that year's version of a
"pick play."
"I remember being angry about that
because he was in the way," Bradley

Already leading 17-7, Clemson twice
was looking to administer a knockout
blow on the reeling Irish. The first re-
sulted in a fumble recovered by line-
backer Doug Becker at the Irish 33. The
second saw the Tigers march to a first
down at Notre Dame's 13 when running
back Ken Callicut, who would play five
