FAN FORUM a non‑contact drill — and he's barely been in the program. Jarron Jones and Durham Smythe both were rolled on, and Drue Tranquill's came on a bad landing after a leap. Malik Zaire fractured his ankle amidst a collision. It's always been a violent game, and players are now bigger, faster and stronger than ever. It's maybe why you see so many turning pro early. There might only be a finite amount of time to be paid in this high‑ reward, but also high‑risk sport. It's not all just pag‑ eantry and tailgates. Want to stay up-to-date with all the Irish news? Frankly, their quarterback runs that flex bone option better than the Georgia Tech quarterback does. He makes better reads, quicker deci- sions and is overall a better runner. Tech's QB made some wrong reads and missed some opportunities early to keep the ball and turn it up himself. DenPetDel: I don't disagree that Navy will tax our defense. We will need to be on our A game. However, after watching how we handled Georgia Tech, I'm more optimistic. RichStarkey: Our defense had a lot to do with the mistakes the QB made, including a few timeouts that he had to take. Anytime Keenan Reynolds is under center they'll have a shot, but if ND performs the way they are capable of on both sides of the ball, then this shouldn't be a close one. Rhtomas187: I live in Annapolis, the stadium is a minute walk up the street and I check out games when Notre Dame isn't on at the same time. They have two B-backs that look like ACC-caliber bruisers; both are quality backs. Coach Ken has certainly taken Paul Johnson's model and improved upon it. Navy has something like 150 kids on the team. They can over-recruit because the school is free obviously. The talent and depth is more then I've seen in the last 10 years or so. NDFanInMadTown: The biggest issue is that Navy has the luxury of again playing us at a very opportune time for them, between a huge road test at Clemson, and our biggest rivalry game against USC. If Kelly gets this team through USC unscathed, he is a lock for coach of the year. Season-ending injuries to players such as junior quarterback Malik Zaire, who suffered a fractured ankle at Virginia Sept. 12, have been one of the top stories at Notre Dame since August.
