The Alexander-Fuller one-on-one
matchup may grab the headlines, but
Williams thinks the game's most im-
portant showdown lies in the trenches.
And since it will have been 16 days
since Clemson played a game when it
kicks off versus Notre Dame Oct. 3 — a
period Williams said they used to their
advantage to nurse some of the injured
players back to full health — he believes
the Tigers will pull out a close one be-
hind their home-field advantage.
"I think the biggest challenge for
Clemson is going to be facing that Notre
Dame offensive line," Williams said.
"Venables said it's the best he's gone
up against. If they can hold their own
against that offensive line, Clemson has
enough athleticism and speed on the
back end to contend with Notre Dame's
passing game.
"I like what I've seen from DeShone
Kizer, but you have to wonder about
him playing in an environment and
against a defense like this. I would give
Clemson the edge being at home." ✦
