FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP Recruiting Notes • The Notre Dame injury bug isn't just affecting the players in South Bend. It has also stung some of the Irish commits around the country. Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy three-star safety Spencer Perry an- nounced on Sept. 23 that he will miss the rest of his senior season due to a shoulder injury. Perry, who commit- ted to the Irish in June and is ranked as the No. 38 safety in the country by Rivals, is believed to have torn his labrum, although a spokesperson for IMG Academy wasn't able to confirm the extent of the injury. "My senior season has been cut short due to a shoulder injury. I will come back stronger and better than ever!" Perry tweeted. A torn labrum will likely require sur- gery and up to eight months of rehab, but Perry might not be the only Notre Dame commit that has to hang up the cleats a little early. Walled Lake (Mich.) Central three-star defensive end Adetokunbo Ogundeji injured his knee in a game Sept. 18. He wasn't sure how bad the injury was, but told Blue & Gold Illustrated it had to do with his MCL. Ogundeji, who is ranked as the No. 23 prospect in Michigan by Rivals, isn't expected to return to the field any time soon, which is also the case with Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy two-star long snapper John Shannon, who has missed two games this season with a shoulder injury. It should be noted that the Irish signed three-star running back Josh Adams last cycle after he tore his ACL in the middle of his senior season. • Los Angeles Loyola four-star cornerback David Long might be committed to Stanford, but that hasn't stopped Notre Dame from recruiting him. Long said that he has kept in contact with Irish associate head coach Mike Denbrock and that he wants to visit Notre Dame at some point during the recruiting process. "I am planning on an official and am getting everything squared away this week. It's a hectic week, with football and school. I'm just trying to get everything organized," Long said on Sept. 23. "I'm not exactly sure when I will visit. I've been talking with the coaches though and I'm pretty sure I'll figure that out." Rivals ranks the 6-0 170-pound Long as the No. 11 cornerback and No. 134 overall prospect in the na- tion. He's also in contact with Nebraska and Michigan. — Andrew Ivins Follow @BGI_aivins on Twitter for daily recruiting updates available on BlueandGold.com!
