Offensive lineman Gabe Houy of Pitts- burgh could be on the verge of picking up a few offers later this fall. Houy, a 6-foot-6, 265-pound junior who attends Upper St. Clair High, has al- ready received verbal offers from Pitt and Toledo, and he's been drawing interest from a few other programs across the re- gion, including Maryland. In fact, he plans to visit College Park for the first time this coming Saturday. "I'm going down to Maryland this week- end for the game against Michigan," Houy said. "It started with them around Sept. 1. They began messaging me around then. They've sent me a few invites to come down for a game and tour the school, but I wasn't able to make it until now." Houy said he's been in communication with Maryland offensive line coach Greg Studrawa. "It's mainly just over Twitter, so we're still getting to know each other," he said. "I'm looking forward to meeting him and the other coaches. I still don't know a whole lot about Maryland, so this will be an important visit." Houy has also been getting to know the coaches at Penn State. Following a strong performance at its camp this past summer, he has been in frequent contact with assistant coach Terry Smith. He also attended the Rutgers game on Sept. 19. "I camped there in July," Houy said. "When I was up there, I mainly talked to Coach Smith and Coach [Herb] Hand. Since then, Coach Smith has been the one messaging me. We're still getting to know each other. He really started mes- saging me regularly at the start of Sep- tember, so our relationship is still fairly new. "But I thought the atmosphere was a lot of fun when I was up there [for the Rutgers game]. The stadium is really nice, and the crowd is a lot of fun. I have a lot of interest in them, but we're still getting to know each other more, so we'll see." In addition to the aforementioned schools, Houy has also heard from West Virginia, Bowling Green and Temple since the start of September. For now, his strongest relationship is with the Pitt coaching staff. "Pitt has been the school that's been talking to me the most," he said. "That started back in June really. They offered me a while back, and I went to their first game this year [against Youngstown State]. I've also been there to watch prac- tice. I've enjoyed getting to know all the coaches there. I probably know them the most right now." A@er traveling to Maryland this coming weekend, Houy said that Toledo will likely be the next school that he visits, although nothing is definite yet. He went on to add that he's expecting Smith and Penn State head coach James Franklin to attend his game this Friday, as Upper St. Clair travels to Woodland Hills to take on Miles Sanders and the Wolverines.
