UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Sam Fry — Volleyball The sophomore outside hitter from Cincinnati was one of the bright spots in Notre Dame's 3‑0 home loss to Louisville Sept. 25, finishing with 10 kills, a .421 attack percentage and two blocks. The 2014 All‑ACC Freshman Team selection led the team in kills (167, 3.15 per set) and blocks (49, 0.92 per set) as of Sept. 30. Anna Marie Gilbertson — Soccer The senior forward scored both Irish goals in then‑No. 16 Notre Dame's huge 2‑1 double overtime road win over then‑ No. 1 Virginia Sept. 24. The two‑year monogram winner from Davis, Calif., has started each of the first 11 games for the Irish this year, and was the team leader in goals with seven, in addition to contrib‑ uting two assists, as of Sept. 30. Brendon Kempin — Tennis The sophomore picked up a singles win over Memphis sopho‑ more Shakeel Manji 6‑3, 6‑4 to cap Notre Dame's weekend performance at Crimson Tide Four in the Fall at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa Sept. 25‑27. The former top 40 national recruit from Sandy, Utah, also teamed with freshman Nathan Griffin to beat Michal Rolski and Jack Turchetta of Colorado 6‑5, 6‑5. Evan Panken — Soccer The senior midfielder from Edina, Minn., shot a rocket into the right corner of the goal in the 78th minute against then‑No. 4 Virginia in a Sept. 25 home match, helping put away the visiting Cavaliers by a final score of 3‑1. The two‑time ACC All‑Academic team member had started all nine games for the Irish as of Sept. 30, and was tied with sophomore midfielder/defender Blake Townes and sophomore forward Jeffrey Farina for the team lead with three assists.
