THE 'GATE' TO THE HALL
During the game versus Massachusetts Sept. 26, the University of Notre Dame honored
1969‑71 split end Thom Gatewood as the school's most recent alumnus inducted into the
College Football Hall of Fame.
Gatewood's 157 career receptions (not including bowls back then) were the school record
for 35 years, and the two‑time Academic All‑American's 7.70 receptions per game for the
No. 2 Fighting Irish in 1970 is still second on the all‑time chart to Golden Tate's 7.75 in 2009.
