"It has been exciting." CAVALIER CORNER: It has to be exciting to make an All-Star game in your first pro season, right? MCCARTHY: "I just wanted to play hard. I have been very excited, since the back injury, to play. "I was playing well enough to make the All-Star game and I am trying to keep on improving." CAVALIER CORNER: Did you think you would be drafted by Tampa Bay and what has it been like to play at Hudson Valley? MCCARTHY: "I can't really say I had any expec- tation. I didn't know what people thought because of the injury. It is a great place to make my pro debut. "Hudson Valley is a great place. It is about one hour from Hudson Valley to Scranton, and my fam- ily is able to come and see me." CAVALIER CORNER: Hitters are always dealing with slumps. How did you handle the one you went through in mid-August? MCCARTHY: "I just try to go about my business the same way. You have to stay even keel; in base- ball you can't get too up and down. "It is something you just have to keep working through. Sometimes you hit balls right at people." CAVALIER CORNER: What is biggest adjust- ment or challenge to pro baseball and what are your plans for the offseason? MCCARTHY: "I think playing every single day. You play a lot in college, so it is something you get used to. I think I am getting used to it. "I am not really sure of what I will be doing after the season.
