PSU Penn State leads the all-time series, 17-1. MOST RECENT MEETING Bill Belton had a school-record 92- yard touchdown run and Penn State held Indiana to 221 total yards in a 13-7 victory in Bloom- ington on Nov. 8, 2014. GOOD NEWS Indiana's 4-1 start is the team's best since 2007, when it opened with five wins in its first six games and ended up finishing 7-6 with a 49-33 loss to Oklahoma State the Insight Bowl. BAD NEWS The Hoosiers could be without two of their key offensive starters on Saturday, as quarterback Nate Sudfeld and running back Jordan Howard both had to leave last week's game against Ohio State with ankle injuries. Indiana is av- eraging 498.2 yards of total of- fense per game, with Sudfeld and Howard supplying nearly four- fifths of it (397.2 ypg). DID YOU KNOW? Howard might have been unfa- miliar to followers of Big Ten foot- ball when he enrolled at Indiana during the off-season. But he was a star in Conference USA, winning All-Freshman notice in his first season at UAB and All-Confer- ence recognition last year after rushing for 1,587 yards. Howard transferred to Indiana after UAB shut down its football program, a decision that it later rescinded. T I M   O W E N | O W E N . T I M . B W I @ G M A I L . Photo by Steve Manuel ROAD RECOVERY to The The Hoosiers look to put a heartbreaking loss behind them as they head to Penn State Oh, how different this week could've been. Had backup quarterback Zander Diamont's desperation pass found its in- tended target in the end zone in the final seconds, rather than being batted to the ground by an Ohio State defensive back, In- diana might be the talk of college football. Instead, the Hoosiers, aAer jumping out to a 10-0 second-quarter lead against the top- ranked Buckeyes Saturday, fell to the defend- ing national champions, 34-27, and suffered their first loss in what has otherwise been an impressive start to Kevin Wilson's fiAh season as head coach in Bloomington. Through five games, Indiana leads the Big Ten with averages of 36 points and 498.2 yards per game. Although its defense is arguably the worst in the conference, it was able to cre- ate enough chaos against the Buck- eyes to hold them to just six first-half points. Now, Wilson said, it's about build- ing upon that performance and stay- ing competitive when the Hoosiers travel to Beaver Stadium this Saturday. "When you play Big Ten East ball, you've got to bring it every week," he said. "We showed earlier against the nonconference slate what we were going to do. Now do you have the 1
